Nous avons réalisé le lever au scanner 3D de la façade du bureau. Gina a pris des photos depuis les deux stations utilisées pour le lever.
Le but est de faire un test quand a la superposition des images sur un nuage de points. Nous utilisons deux méthodes: l'une avec des images panoramiques, l'autre avec un cube d'images (6 photos perpendiculaires).

Thursday, August 7th:
We realized the survey with the HD 3000 of the facade of the svls office. Gina took pictures since both set up used for the survey.
The purpose is to make a test when has the overlapping of the images on a cloud of points. We use two methods: the one with panoramic pictures, the other one with cube of pictures ( 6 perpendicular picturs).

Levé scanner laser 3D

Durant une demi-journée, nous avons levé une propriété avec un Scanner laser. C'était pour nous l'occasion d'apprendre à se servir du scanner dans des conditions réelles.
Nous avons donc stationné deux trépieds. Sur le premier, nous avons installé le scanner et sur le second Gina a placé son appareil photo pour réaliser un panorama. Ceci nous permettra par la suite d'améliorer la qualité visuelle du rendu 3D.

Scanner Surveying

During a half-day, we surveyed a property with a laser scanner. It was our first opportunity to learn how to use the scanner in real life conditions.
We set up two tripods. On the first tripod, we installed the scanner and on the second Gina put her camera to create a panorama picture. With this, we can improve the 3D visual quality rendering.

Vendredi 25 juillet: comme jeudi, nous avons levé tous les clous d'arpentage du quartier d'East Palo Alto. Francis, Jérome et Baptiste ont réalisé en plus le lever d'une maison dans le même quartier.

Jeudi 24 juillet, nous avons lever plusieurs rues de la ville Palo Alto au GPS. Pour cela, nous avons utilisé le temps réel. Il s'agit de mettre en route un GPS pivot durant toute la durée du lever. Le lever se fait à l'aide de GPS mobiles en stationnant deux fois une minute sur chaque point. Un de nous surveillait le pivot (visible à gauche), et deux équipes de deux réalisait le lever en temps réel avec le mobile.

On Thursday, July 24th, we have to survey several streets of the Palo Alto city with the GPS. For that purpose, we used the real time. It is a question of starting a GPS base during all the duration of the survey. The survey is made by means of mobile GPS by parking twice one minute on every point. One of us watched the pivot (on the left), and two teams realized the real-time survey with the mobile.

Mercredi 23 juillet, nous avons continué de tracer le plan de façade du bâtiment à gauche. Pour cela, nous utilisons le logiciel Autocad et l'image puis le scan de la façade.

On Wednesday, July 23rd, we continued to draw the plan of the building to the left. For that purpose, we use the Autocad software and the image then the scan of the facade.

Aujourd'hui, nous avons repris le travail après trois jours dans le Yosemite. Vivien et moi sommes allés sur le terrain avec Moise et Francis pour effectuer le lever d'une limite de propriété proche de l'aérodrome de Palo Alto. Pour cela, nous avons recherché les bornes dans un premier temps, puis nous avons cherché leur position à l'aide de la station totale. Les bornes sont des tubes en métal que nous trouvons grâce à un détecteur à métaux.

Baptiste et Jérome sont restés au bureau. Ils ont réalisé le plan de façade d'un bâtiment levé par scanner 3D.

Today, we took back the work after three days in Yosemite. Vivien and I went on the ground with Moise and Francis to make boundary. For that purpose, we look for iron pipe at first, then we are looking for their position with the total station. The limit of the prperty is delimited by iron pipes which we find thanks to a detector with metals.

Baptist and Jérome stayed in the office(desk). They realized the plan(shot) of facade of a building(ship) raised to scan 3D.

Nous avons effectuer un lever de canalisations et le nivellement (altitude) de celles-ci.

Il faut savoir que le scanner HD3000 possède un appareil photographique mais la résolution de l'image n'est pas excellente. Nous utilisons donc un appareil photographique professionnel pour obtenir une meilleure représentation de l'espace concerné. La superposition du panorama sur le semis de point issu du scanner HD3000 se fait grâce au logiciel Cyclone que nous utilisons chaque jour.

It is good to know that the scanner HD3000 has got a camera but the resolution of pictures is not very good. We thus use a professional camera to obtain a better representation of the concerned space. The overlapping of the panorama on the cloud points of the scanner HD3000 is made thanks to the software Cyclone which we use every day.

Lundi 7 juillet : nous nous sommes séparés en deux groupes.

Vivien et Baptiste sont restés au bureau pour appliquer ce qu'ils avaient appris durant la première semaine. Ils se sont servis du logiciel " Cyclone " pour créer un immeuble en 3D.

Pendant ce temps, Lucien et moi étions sur le terrain. Nous devions retrouver différents points qui délimitaient des propriétés. Il convient de préciser la température : 120° Fahrenheit soit 40° Celsius.

Monday, July 7: we separated into two groups.

Vivien and Baptiste stayed in the office to apply what they had learned during the first week. They used the software " Cyclone " to create a building in 3D.

Meanwhile, Lucien and I were on the ground. We had to find different points delimited properties. It should be noted temperature: 115 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius.

Vendredi, jour anniversaire de l'indépendance des États-Unis, nous sommes allés à San Francisco. Nous avons pu voir la prison d'Alcatraz, les lions de mer dans le port et le feu d'artifice de la fête nationale.

Jeudi, Baptiste et moi sommes allés travailler dans les collines proches de San Jose. Nous étions avec Francis et Kevin, deux employés du cabinet. Le travail consistait à trouver des canalisations d'eau et d'en faire un plan. Jérome et Vivien sont resté au bureau.

Avant notre première semaine de stage, nous avons visité San Francisco ou plutôt une partie de San Francisco. En effet, cette ville est immense. Nous nous sommes ainsi rendu à la downtown et ses alentours: trés impressionnant, la Pride 2008 aussi.

Before our first week of training course, we visited San Francisco or rather a part of San Francisco. Indeed, this city is immense. We so went to the downtown and its surroundings: impressing, Pride on 2008 too.

Aprés ce weekend entre San Francisco et San Jose, nous avons enfin commencé notre stage. Ainsi, le lundi, nous avons découvert un scanner 3D différent du HD3000: le Cyrax. C'est l'un des premiers scanners 3D de Leica. Cette présentation a été suivie de l'utilisation de cibles utiles à la liaison de scans issus de deux positions différentes du scanner 3D.

Aujourd'hui, nous avons réalisé un certain nombre de tests concernant la résolution du scanner. En effet, il s'agissait de trouver un bon compromis entre précision du scan et le temps de prise de vue pour plusieurs objets.
Nous étions trois pour les tests, Vivien est allé sur le terrain.

After this weekend in San Francisco and San Jose, we finally began our training course. So, on Mondays, we discovered a laser scanner different from the HD3000: the Cyrax. It is one of the first laser scanner of Leica. This presentation was followed by the use of targets useful for the connection of scans stemming from two positions different from the 3D scanner.

Today, we realized certain number of tests concerning the resolution of the laser scanner. Indeed, it was a question of finding a good compromise between precision of the scan and the time of recording for several objects.
We were three for tests, Vivien went on the ground.

Bonjour à tous,

Nous voici à San José (Californie) pour deux mois de stage dans l'entreprise nommée Silicon Valley Land Surveying. Topographie et scanner 3D sont au programme. Nous sommes prévenus, il faudra se méfier des serpents à sonnette et des cougars lorsque nous travaillerons dans les montagnes et les forêts.

Nous avons atterri à San Francisco mardi après un voyage de 24 h. Nous avons trouvés le soir même deux chambres au Joe West Hall à la San Jose State university où nous résiderons pendant un mois:

Notre stage commence officiellement lundi 30 juin mais nous avons déjà passé deux journées au cabinet. En effet, le jeudi, nous avons eu une démonstration de scanner 3D et aujourd'hui nous avons utiliser une station totale. Un certain temps a été consacré a la compréhension du vocabulaire et de l'explication des différences de méthodes travail entre la France et les USA...

Ce weekend, nous allons enfin découvrir San Francisco.

It's that time of year where we at Silicon Valley Land Surveying, Inc. host another group of land surveying (geomatic engineering) students. This annual program was started about nine years ago. Jeff l'Her was out first inter from ESGT and now we have hosted over 25 or so interns since then. Follow the interns as they blog about activities from each day, as well as post photos.
